STRICT REGULATIONS & CATCH CERTIFICATES

True to our Norwegian heritage, King Oscar has long been committed to protecting and enhancing our fishing grounds and taking only what the seas can support. In fact, Norway is considered a global leader in sustainability and green economy development – and sets the standard for responsible fishery management.

King Oscar trades solely with approved suppliers and local fishermen with full traceability. Our catches are backed by certificates covering vessels and catch areas. To avoid overfishing, we adhere to quotas based on leading marine science and set by both Norwegian and international authorities.

As always, we take a firm stance against illegal, unregulated and unreported (IUU) fishing, wasteful discards, and irresponsible by-catches.

LONG-TERM, ECO-FRIENDLY GOALS

Our parent company’s SeaChange® initiatives and sustainability strategies are directed at the entire chain – from catch methods to processing and storage practices, all the way through recyclable, BPA-NI certified packaging and regulated export.

Our production facilities in Norway and Poland have received IFS Food certification for Higher Level Food Quality and Safety and ISO 22000 food safety management system certification, respectively. Long-term, these important standards help ensure safer foods for everyone, a better working environment for our team, and smarter resource utilization for our planet.

INSTITUTE OF MARINE RESEARCH

The highest responsible authority for the fishing industry in Norway is the Ministry of Trade and Industry (TDI). The Norwegian Institute of Marine Research is a leading global research institution that assists the TDI with guidance on aquaculture and the ecosystems in the North Sea, Norwegian Sea, Norwegian coastal zones, and Barents Sea.

THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL FOR THE EXPLORATION OF THE SEA

The world’s oldest intergovernmental science organization, the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) coordinates and promotes multidisciplinary marine research in the North Atlantic Ocean and adjacent seas. Unbiased, species-specific management plans ensure the sustainable use of the marine environment and its resources.

MARINE STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is a non-profit organization aimed at setting international standards for well-managed fisheries and sustainable fishing practices. Their goal is to protect the future of fishing communities, preserve ocean ecosystems, and ensure seafood is available to everyone, always. Where possible, we source from waters certified by the MSC.

SEACHANGE®

SeaChange is the global sustainability strategy of King Oscar’s parent company, Thai Union, designed to change seafood for the better. The integrated plan aims to promote responsible, traceable fishing practices and smarter fishery management, optimize efficient and clean production, empower workers and improve working environments, and encourage healthy diets through sustainable seafood.
