How to Build a Better Tin-Based Lunch

How to Build a Better Tin-Based Lunch

Dinner gets all the glory, but lunch is where tinned fish shines. The midday meal can be a rushed afterthought, or a moment to actually nourish yourself. Tinned fish fits naturally into the lunchtime routine. Here are four easy lunch formats to get you started. Small upgrade, big difference.

If you usually have a sandwich for lunch…

Consider this a gentle nudge to mix things up. Mash avocado with salt, pepper and lime juice, spread it onto toasted sourdough or a crunchy baguette, and top with smoky Kipper Snacks. The rest is up to you. Sprouts and flax seeds work beautifully, but sliced cucumber or radish are just as welcome.

If you usually have a salad for lunch…

Try a veggie-packed pasta salad with sardines. Small, mild, and almost sweet, they're wild-caught in Norwegian fjords and packed in pure olive oil, which doubles as the base for the dressing. Tossed with spinach, dill, feta, and cherry tomatoes, you can make it the night before for lunch the next day.

If you usually have a bowl for lunch…

Try loaded Mediterranean-style hummus. Start with a generous base of hummus, then layer on our rich, meaty salmon, whatever vegetables look good, fresh herbs, and plenty of pita for scooping. Satisfying without being heavy, and just enough to carry you through the afternoon.

If you're more of the snacking type…

Lean into it. Stir up a high-protein mackerel dip using our North Atlantic mackerel, wild caught and hand-filleted for a mild, clean flavor that works beautifully with a little lemon and cream cheese. Set out some cut vegetables, olives, nuts, and fruit alongside. Can't be bothered? Top sturdy crackers with sardines, add your favorite condiments and call it lunch.
